What does Knowledge of Law + Research +
Perseverance + Honesty = for the Dentons?

FULL RESTITUTION
Welcome back wonderful readers of the Dayton Daily News.  So glad you
decided to click here once again to see what we are up to.  The last time
you were here I was telling you about how Mrs. Kimberly Denton (Kim)
was almost thrown in jail by a hot headed, over zealous, unprofessional
investigator of Dayton Police Department and the Dentons were ordered
out of the police station under threat of arrest by Investigator Darrell
Bell.  We left off with the Dentons going to the Mayor Bobby Vincent's
home and speaking with the Mayor’s wife and later that evening Kim’s
conversation with the Mayor.  Well folks, let’s pick up then where we
left off.

That evening after Kim hung up the phone with Mayor Vincent, she and
the Constable Roy Denton,
emeritus (Roy) decided that there was no way
they could stop here.  Realizing that without a police report it was going
to be so much more difficult to get formal charges pressed against the
thief that stole thousands of dollars from them.  But, they could not
allow this to happen to them, even if the Dayton Police Department
thought it was funny, legal, or only civil.  The Dentons knew they were
victims of crime and were going to seek justice no matter how much
more humiliation they would have to take.  And folks, let me tell you, they
were run through the ringer simply to receive what any victim of crime
should receive, and that is justice and punishment upon the person that
inflicted this upon them.

That evening, Roy drafted a letter to Darrell Bell, the investigator that
was so hostile, down right cruel, and absolutely unprofessional in his
conduct toward his wife.  He outlined all of the CRIMINAL charges that
indeed existed in the transaction between the Dentons and the
contractor.  That this was not a civil matter and indeed criminal and
explained in this letter to Investigator Bell how he had behaved in a
manner unbecoming of an officer of the law and in fact did the exact
opposite of what he is hired and paid to do, that being to help victims of
crime and actually “investigate” the situation that the Dentons were
telling him had happened.  However, instead of actually performing his
duty as the investigator, he chose to laugh at the Denton’s predicament,
reluctantly invited them to the police station, only to intimidate,
humiliate, and scare Kim, and on top of that, interfering and prohibiting
the Dentons from getting the only thing they needed from him to get the
ball of justice rolling, a simple police report.  It is the actions of Darrell
Bell, a once upon a time acquaintance of Roy’s, that is actually to blame
for this difficult task the Dentons now had to face and deal with all
alone without the help of any local law enforcement,
AGAIN.  I guess
that is taxpayers money hard at work for the Dentons.
NOT!!!

After summing up words that were hard to say to his once upon a time
acquaintance, the investigator.  He expressed his disappointment and
anger with him for mistreating his wife, not looking in to the situation,
and neglecting to know basically what the heck he was talking about when
he told Roy that what had happened was civil.  The letter that Roy wrote
to the investigator would be given to him at the police station the next
day because Roy had to let this ‘old friend’ know how he felt and just
where he believed the investigator went entirely wrong with him,
professionally and personally.

The next day Constable Denton and his wife, Kim went to the police
department and while Kim sat worriedly in the car, her husband walked
in to the police department and hand delivered the letter to Investigator
Bell, who remarkably was sitting in the same chair in the lobby as he was
sitting in the prior day.  Doesn’t this guy have a desk, office, or
something to do?!!!  When Roy walked in to Dayton’s "
finest" office, the
Investigator Bell was sitting in the chair with what Roy describes as a
“stupid little grin” perhaps a grin similar to a possum’s grin after he just
got done burrowing through a trash can and finding something tasty to
eat.  The former Constable handed him the letter and said, “This is for
you”.  At that moment, the “Special” Chief of police Chris Sneed was
coming down the hall towards Roy looking at him where he mumbled
something. Roy then told the “Special” Chief that he had nothing to say
to him and that if he was going to say anything at all, it would be before
the Dayton Council at the next meeting.   Constable Denton then turned
and walked out of the police department.

Hold on folks!  It gets better!  Keep reading!

Now, here you have the big, burly, former Constable, all 6 foot, 280
pounds of him walking out of the police department.  Mrs. Denton was
sitting in the driver’s seat and looked in the rear view mirror to see her
husband, the big fine handsome man that he is, come strolling out of the
police department, but wait, she saw someone behind him.  At first she
thought it was some little high school boy, but she had to look again at
this little clean cut, almost pretty, wearing a pink oxford button up shirt
“Special” Chief Sneed stomping out as if he was after the former
Constable.  Kim could not hear what he was saying to her husband but
she could see the pouty red, mad face and that mouth flapping.  She
watched in the rear view mirror as her husband continued his stroll to
the car, all the while this little fella yapping at him while following him to
their car.

She knew that this was trouble approaching the car, but she waited for
her husband to open the passenger’s door and slide in the seat, but Roy
no more than got the car door opened, and this little fella, appeared in
front of the car where the door was opened.  The only thing separating
her husband, who now looked like a giant mammoth standing face to face
to the Pee Wee Herman look-a-like "Special" Chief of Police, was fear
and atmosphere, other than the door.  That little boy chief looked
scared!

Kim sat and watched her husband as he remained firm in his position and
posture as the “Special Chief” was seemingly trying to antagonize her
husband to the point of instigating some sort of confrontation.  He
seemed so mad that he couldn’t get a rise out of the Roy he almost
became hysterical.  The only thing the “little guy” failed to realize was
that Roy and Kim were too smart to fall for what he was trying to do.
While the Chief was still yapping and snapping at her husband, she
looked in the rear view mirror to see that there were several Dayton
Police Officers standing ready looking out the door of the police
department building.  Constable Denton continued to maintain with the
“Special” Chief that he would see him at the Council meeting.  With a
quivery voice, the Chief having to look up told Roy that if he had
something to say about him that he ought to be man enough and say it
face to face.  Constable Denton who was wearing his sunglasses at the
time, leaned forward  and downward closer to the “Special” Chief’s face
and said, “I am man enough and I am face to face with you.”  He then
repeated himself to the “Special” Chief, maybe because of a learning
disability or something, but he had to repeat once again to the Chief
that he would see him at the council meeting. He then calmly got in to the
car and Kim in shock that ONCE AGAIN they had to leave the police
department after dealing with hostility from Dayton’s finest.

Mrs. Denton said that she was afraid once again and decided that she
could not rely on, nor trust the policemen of her community.  She had
come to the conclusion that the only way they had a chance of getting
justice was on the sole knowledge her husband, Constable Roy L. Denton,
had of law and his understanding of how things “are done around here”
mentality.

Well, there you have, the next little chapter in the story of the Denton’s
struggle for justice in their hometown and how it almost seems as
though the people in the very position to help them, are dead set against
them!  Again, I thank you all for reading and hope you continue to click
on back and see us again, for another page in the story of the Denton’s
struggle for justice in Dayton.
