Constable Roy Denton,. emeritus, has been retired from law enforcement
now since 1998, yes in FACT, retired for over 10 years. He feels to this
day that he served his community and voters as best he could. During his
retirement he went in to somewhat of seclusion, and began seeking out new
interests. He always has loved to express his thoughts, opinions, and
feelings on various subjects, especially politics and law through writing.
After being retired for a few years and living a pretty serene life he
decided his house needed some fixing up. So he hired someone to
construct an addition to his home for more living space. Well, the deal with
this “so-called” contractor went sour as in the early days of this man's
arriving to the Constable’s home it was obvious this man was NOT a
contractor and was in way over his head with the project that the
Constable hired him for.
The Constable called an old acquaintance from the Dayton Police
Department, who was now the investigator. The Constable had always
thought this man was his friend. The investigator had stopped by the
Constable’s home on numerous occasions in the past to have a bite to eat
and sit around and “talk shop”. Perhaps too many years had gone by, or due
to the fact that the Constable was no longer a member of “the club”, or due
to the fact that the Constable even though retired, was still very verbal
about things he did not agree with at Dayton public meetings, because even
though retired, he still cared about Dayton, that his complaint to his old
friend was not taken seriously. In fact, Constable Denton was laughed at
and told that the situation was not a crime but a civil matter. With his
knowledge of law he researched for hours until he found several criminal
charges that this man was actually guilty of.
To make a long story short, through the Constable’s knowledge and love of
researching law, he was able to get to the Grand Jury and get this
“fraudulent contractor” indicted on charges of grand theft all by himself,
with no help from the Dayton Police Department. This thief was now
forced to make a deal with the district attorney’s office to pay the
Denton's back every dime he took, or he faced jail. The Denton's was paid
full restitution for the money taken from them by this fraudulent
contractor. The Constable was able to finish the addition on his home
through help of family and friends finding other contractors to finish the
job. In the end, though it was harder than it ever should have been, he
was able to finish his home project and get justice by himself.
The ordeal that the Dentons had to go through trying to get help from the
very same men he once worked alongside of, and nothing being done to help
him, but in fact hindering him from getting justice, is perhaps the element
that caused the Constable, to once again, pursue other avenues of interest.
But this new interest would have to still include politics, law, and writing.
Thus was the birth of his Internet website called RheaCountyNewspaper.
com that he along with other users wrote opinions about the local current
events in his community government. Shortly after a year this website had
acquired an average of 7000 readers a month. Although this website was
controversial, it was no different than what the Constable had done while
he was acting Constable. Stood up and let it be known what he thought was
right or wrong and why, always using the truth to back up what he was
talking about.
As we all know how the antics of politics works, it did not take long for the
Constable’s website to gain readers that loved what he was writing, and the
politicians that hated what he was writing. Although the Dayton Police
Department and/or someone with the “authority and power” to do so
somehow had a hand in shutting the Constable’s website down, thereby
ripping him of his First Amendment right. The Dayton Daily News is glad to
announce that Constable Roy Denton's torch is once again burning strong
and here to carry on his first website works and faith in First Amendment
right and other rights we all should have but are somehow quelled in
Dayton. When Mr. Denton was Constable he did not like to see this happen,
and even though retired today, he still does not like to see this happen and
will continue to carry his torch of justice for as long as he can.
Dayton Daily News truly hopes that those readers that loyally followed the
former website will begin to offer their support with his newest project
with a few twists and turns, but always, always writing what he believes to
be just and truthful.
And just why does he do it? Well, as in his own words..."I suppose one of
the reasons I do the things I do is because it is so much easier to do
nothing...".
