I was recently reading some comments at the website Topix in the City of Dayton
section and one word kept coming to my mind as I read the comments. What is this
word? The word is ‘empathy’. Empathy is basically the ability to, for instance, ‘put
yourself in someone else’s shoes’, being able to relate to how they feel about a
situation and being sensitive to it. Certainly, a select few at this forum do lack a
great deal of empathy in general. I read comments about the Dentons and just
wonder what is it that a select few (and I do mean very few) have against them?
What had the Dentons done directly to these couple of people to make them strike
out against the Dentons. Surely, there must be some history there, or perhaps it
is just another person who does not like The Dentons because their associates are
the ones who have mistreated the Dentons. Basically it is my opinion that the
Dentons or anyone for that matter who would “speak out” and not take being
mistreated lightly are not treated well by these "few" anonymous posters at this
particular website. The Dentons are guilty of nothing other than sticking up for
themselves and defending themselves when the Dayton City Police or the council
would not help them. There are some people (I did not say all people) in Rhea
County/Dayton in power positions that do not like citizens who know what their
rights are and have the courage to stand up against them and speak out about it.
Many do not know that the Dentons do not speak to defend only themselves, but
the interest as well of others who live in Dayton.
What these insensitive few fail to do amidst their comments, smirks, sniffs, and
chuckles is to tell the whole story. These few people give no factual statements to
prove the Dentons are crooks, low lifes, "scum", alcoholics, drug addicts, and any
other negative description posted by anonymous people that make comments based
on opinions alone, not facts. The Dentons do not go out looking for trouble. The
Dentons speak up for what they feel is wrong in Dayton, not just for themselves
but for other citizens as well. Mr. Denton spoke out against red light cameras that
the Chief of Police of Dayton, as well as some of the council wanted, however had
Mr. Denton not spoke against the Redflex company coming in to Dayton, we would
have red light cameras here. Also, Mr. Denton spoke before the council against
the half-cent tax increase at which time the late Mr. Jim Barnes agreed with Mr.
Denton and swayed the vote and thus delayed the tax increase until it was re-
presented at a later time, By this time, Mr. Denton was tired of being shunned by
the policy makers/breakers and no one standing with him to fight for things that
were in favor of not just him, but other citizens of Dayton as well.
“I would like to say to the few anonymous posters that feel so free and bold to
make comments I feel quite confident that you would not have the audacity to say
directly to them in person what you post on a website. I say to you that you have
demonstrated to anyone who reads Topix that you have displayed your lack of
empathy, sympathy, and most of all, you lack of knowledge of things you freely
comment on. You also failed in making any legitimate point backed by facts.
Another thing you demonstrated to the objective-minded reader is that you are not
capable of expressing yourselves in a diplomatic way. You resort to rudeness,
sarcasm, and biased opinions, something anyone of an average to low Intelligence
Quotient (IQ) and the ability to turn on a PC and use a keyboard. There is no
special talent in getting on the internet and bashing someone, anyone can do that.
However, it takes a genuine person to be true to themselves and muster up the
courage to stand up against opposition. In the end, The Dentons are still happy.
They do not reply to anonymous posters on Topix because they do not feel they
have to. The Dentons know that the way they live their life and their actions speak
louder than any words an invisible person with no identity can ever express on any
website. An anonymous poster being rude and inconsiderate to someone on the
internet is by fAR NOT an icon of any kind, but truly someone that hates and
admires someone for doing what they would never do, stand up, be seen, be heard,
and be recognized. So despite what is typed on Topix or not typed on Topix, it
should be made clear to anyone who strikes out anonymously that despite what they
may believe in their own mind, the Dentons day is neither made or broken by a self-
proclaimed internet icon that will always remain anonymous because that is the only
thing they have the courage to do. Therefore, I have empathy for this person. I
hope they do find whatever satisfaction they are searching for. If I didn't have
empathy for the anonymous haters out there, then I would sit around and be mad
and upset all the time. Instead, I look at their words of hate as a cry out to fit in
somewhere. It gets lonely out there on the internet in a world of hate I would
imagine. I could have even more empathy for this person if they could actually let
me know what the Dentons have done to them to make them behave in such an ugly
manner when it comes TO the Dentons, then perhaps that could be rectified,
worked out, mended. However, this person apparently isn't interested in working
any differences they may have out with the Dentons. They simply find pleasure in
being ugly towards individuals they do not like.
Therefore your comments do not bother the Dentons. But as for me, well, your
ugly behavior motivated me to make a comment, a comment that is filled with
genuine legitimacy. Yours were taken strictly from some other's opinion of the
Dentons and you simply just jump on the bandwagon of how many, (very few). Your
comments are disappointingly another reminder of why I do not like a lot of people
that are like YOU in Dayton. Thank goodness I do not know many and in a way, am
glad you are anonymous because I am sure I do not know you, as I would not
associate with people that treat others as you do.
Before I end my little thought for the day, I wanted to let you know that your
comments will not affect the Dentons either way because this is old news to them.
They have long put these kind of people with these attitudes behind them because
they moved on. Forgive them if they are fully aware of how Dayton is run, based
on personal experience, and they do not like it.
Therefore, they have the guts to speak their opinions and they do it without
complaining anonymously. The snide remarks, criticisms, and insensitive humor you
covered your comments with does not hurt or bother them in anyway.
So what is the reason I wrote this? I really hope I am finally getting through to
you, if not, hopefully eventually I will, and not with cruelty or rudeness, but with
kindness and understanding. I do not hate haters, I feel bad that they are so
unhappy.
I just wanted to make sure that you know, you do not anger, frustrate, or hurt
their feelings. You and your comments simply mean nothing. You are a big zero in
their life, whether you are a self-proclaimed icon or not. I don't understand that
one yet, how an anonymous person can be an icon. Isn't an icon someone well-
recognized and famous for accomplishments? If you are an icon, I've never heard
of you. The Dentons do not place any kind of value in someone's opinion if the
person giving that opinion does not have the integrity or confidence to stand up
and be recognized for stating the comments you make. As for me, I am thanking
you because it gave “ole Gracie” here something to write about today.
Lastly, thank you to those who click on over to www.searchofserenity.com and read
what we have to say. We thoroughly enjoy your comments and feedback. It lets us
know we have many who feel the same way we do about a lot of things we post and
post with the courage to stand behind what we say and we stand behind our name.
I enjoy writing here so much more than constantly defend my opinion simply being
scrutinized for my last name. Those of you who know me, know the caliber of
person, woman, mother, and wife that I am. These people also know what you post
are filled with lies and just good old fashion, not hospitality, but rudeness. Haters
hate those that are real. I can get along with anyone, but I won't go along to get
along, I will only stand up and speak about what I believe in my heart to be right.
As always, thank you for reading, Gracie a/k/a Kim Denton.
