| HOUSE BILL 300 By Curtiss AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 3, relative to the offense of harassment. |
| Before we all get too happy about this new law, you may want to actually sit down and read it objectively. To me, this new law sounds like it is designed to battle the ever growing "cyberbully" effects that the Internet by it's very nature seem to encourage. I think it can be argued that all throughout world history the words "for our children" are like fire is to a powder keg, they ignite a passive passion where we do anything "for our children". However, ironically we have no problem sending those same children off to war, pass on enormous debt and overall leaving the world depleted of resources that we used up leaving our precious little "kids" holding an empty bag, or a bag full of crap and debts. Talk about shackles... This new law gives police even more authority to nose into the private affairs. This new law will more than likely slowly be amended to include that any thing you say, communicate in any fashion that anyone else can step up and say that they "were offended" by your comment, your slogan on your shirt, your "Don't Tread on Me" flag, your state flag, that famous Confederate flag of the south, a hangman's noose and perhaps even a color can become offensive and you go to jail. I feel this is but just one more assault on our First Amendment freedom of speech. It appears that your public officials, your elected reps, judges, lawyers and any other so-called "elitist" people that MUST keep you quite. Before long you may see laws prohibiting the use of flashlights because a flashlight can be shown to expose all those dark and shady deals that YOU are not supposed to know about. The link below will take you to the actual Bill. You can click on the Tennessee Legislature link to read more detailed information on this Bill. As you research this Bill you will notice that Jim Cobb was a primary supporter of this Bill. Too bad he can't support a Bill that makes it unlawful for HIM or any other person to duct tape a tape recorder under a state employee's desk, like a common spy. Oh wait, there already is a law that makes sneaking and tape recording a state employee like HE DID, however to him is was "all just a big joke that was taken wrong". Next time I get pulled over for speeding I'll see if I can "joke" mu way out of it. WOW. I just thought of something, are these words I just expressed of MY OPINION a violation of Cobb and the gangs new law to censor my speech? Maybe if he feels uneasy or "offensive" does that mean police can sneak in and start spying on me? Do I now go to jail? Law is a serious thing folks. But that same law does NOT apply to us all equally and to that --- what does one do? |
